History of media

Media History is a microblog that I started to run on X portal. Daily short posts about interesting events from the past of culture and technology.

Microblog writing idea

Ten years ago I already ran such a channel, with a similar concept. The idea came from an exercise with students in popular science journalism. One of the students talked about microblogging with anniversaries of events during World War II. At the time, I thought that the history of media is equally rich in events. Maybe not as historically important as politics, but interesting.

What I will be writing about on the X portal?

Each day I choose one event from media history. It could be movie premieres or music albums. Emissions of the first episodes of TV series. Also anniversaries of deaths and birthdays of prominent journalists and media makers. I take inspiration from the Wikipedia calendar, but I try to look in other sources as well. I attach a thematic illustration to each entry

History of media – teaching aids

Admittedly, I don’t teach media history, but it has always been an incredible inspiration and hobby for me in my free time. However, we sometimes touch on historical topics, including talking about journalism. Past media events make us aware of how technology and our society are changing. Sometimes we feel like revisiting the past, seeking safety in a crazy media world.
