About Media Education journal

A new issue of the journal Media Education (Mediaobrazovanie) has just been published. It is an initiative of Prof. Alexander Feodorov, currently the most cited media educator in the world. The journal has been serving media and film education for 20 years, and has provided many interesting studies and research. I am immensely pleased to collaborate with this periodical. This is my fourth publication proposal to appear in print.

What is religious media? Pedagogical response

For the past few months, we have been working on the scholarly output of Bishop Adam Lepa, a pioneer of religious media pedagogy in Poland, as part of a grant. I have already posted several thematic posts on mediastudies.pl, including about the grant itself, as well as selected studies – under the tag Bishop Adam Lepa. When looking for an answer to the question of media religiosity, it is pedagogy that provides an interesting and motivating answer. It is the person of the media viewer and user who is crucial here. His competence, skills, but also intellect and spirituality.

In media education, let’s talk about values, not just competencies

Bishop Adam Lepa proposed an original approach to media education. For him, it does not exist without reference to values. Then it remains suspended ‘in an axiological vacuum’. It also lacks cultural motivations when we only focus on competencies and skills. Only the study of what is valuable, culturally, but also – and this is his proposal – religiously, are able to pull the audience towards media development. Indeed, when I talk to young people about the media, it is bland. When I say: let’s talk about freedom in the media, the discussion becomes dynamic. Read more about Bishop Adam Lepa’s religious pedagogy of the media in my article.
